Networking Air Quality Observations and Models: From Virtual to Real
The data for air quality Decision Support Systems and Science Teams are typically delivered through dedicated and closed ("stovepipe") data systems or the observations, emissions or model outputs are manually dowloaded from Data Portals. Two decades of genuine effort by Facilitating Initiatives, dramatic advances in web technologies and the new social networking phenomenon yielded only marginal improvement in the seamless flow from data providers to users. Recently, a community-driven pilot network is in emergence that connects and enables several major air quality data hubs to exchange data through standards-based, interoperable, loosely coupled web services.
At the workshop, practitioners from Europe and North America will assess the current state of the network; identify key issues, share best practices and develop concrete plans(??) to move(?) the emerging voluntary air quality data sharing network from virtual to real.
