Access outside the EPA is being addressed by installing the WCS servers and downloadable applet on the EPA Portal. This requires an EPA firewall modification to allow http-80 access from external computers to an internal computer used for visualization. +

All data, tools, and other resources on VIEWS are freely accessible. No account is required to use VIEWS, but users are encouraged to register. Direct, read-only access to the integrated VIEWS database is also available via direct MS SQL Server connection, OLEDB, or ODBC. +

As of February, 2008, the Geoweb Service is on the EPA Intranet at http://gds.rtpnc.epa.gov. The Geoweb application is operable in the early stages of production use. A User’s Guide is linked to the home page at the URL above. The User’s Guide includes several two-minute videos illustrating the use of the Geoweb tools. Those outside of the EPA network do not have access. +

The IDD/LDM uses its own well known port and each site configures the software so that only an explicit list of sites can subscribe to the data. +

The data access and processing services are accessible through the SOAP-WSDL protocol, which is designed to pass through firewalls. At this time there are no access restrictions to these services. +

The main security barrier for AIRNow is getting real-time data and products through the EPA firewall. This was overcome by installing a dedicated file transfer server that uses SSH connections to the Data Management Center, as well as SSH to the AIRNow.gov web server. This provides a secure, but rapid, file transfer solution. +
