The following CDL represents an example of the structure of a GHRSST Level 2P file for an SST data set derived from the Sentinel-3A Sea and Land Surface Temperature (SLSTR) data set. Its straight from the GHRSST Data Processing Specification version 2
The dimensions ni and nj represent the satellite across and along track (or scan) coordinates respectively. Other important variables are time, lon, lat for positioning satellite observations/information found in the sea_surface_temperature, sst_dtime, sses_bias, sses_standard_deviation, and quality_level variables (and others).

Templates for Multiband Imagery (Level 1) Data
Contributor: Aleksandar Jelenak (The HDF Group)
These templates can be used for storing satellite swath multiband (a.k.a. Level 1) geolocated and calibrated data. The templates have been inspired by a discussion on the CF metadata mailing list and the resulting CF trac ticket to allow non-spatiotemporal coordinates.
The following two templates differ in the type of variable, named band in both, that serves as the spectral coordinate. The first template uses a numerical coordinate variable whereas the second a string-valued auxiliary coordinate variable. The first template is applicable to data acquired by optical imagers. The second template is aimed at data from microwave instruments where several bands can only differ in the polarization of electromagnetic radiation measured and thus a numerical spectral coordinate would not be able to differentiate between them. Only the variable attributes that support the concept are included in the templates.
Template with numerical spectral coordinate variable:
dimensions: time = <integer> ; // option: time = UNLIMITED swath = <integer> ; band = <integer> ; variables: // spectral coordinate variable float band(band) ; band:standard_name = “sensor_band_central_radiation_wavelength” ; band:units = “um” ; float lat(time, swath) ; lat:standard_name = "latitude" ; lat:units = "degrees_north" ; float lon(time, swath) ; lon:standard_name = "longitude" ; lon:units = "degrees_east" ; double time(time) ; time:standard_name = "time" ; time:units = "<units> since <datetime string>" ; time:calendar = "gregorian" ; float swath_band_data(time, swath, band) ; swath_band_data:coordinates = "lon lat" ;
Template with string spectral coordinate variable:
dimensions: time = <integer> ; // option: time = UNLIMITED swath = <integer> ; band_enum = <integer> ; band_strlen = <integer> ; variables: // string-valued auxiliary coordinate variable char band(band_enum, band_strlen) ; band:standard_name = “sensor_band_identifier” ; float lat(time, swath) ; lat:standard_name = "latitude" ; lat:units = "degrees_north" ; float lon(time, swath) ; lon:standard_name = "longitude" ; lon:units = "degrees_east" ; double time(time) ; time:standard_name = "time" ; time:units = "<units> since <datetime string>" ; time:calendar = "gregorian" ; float swath_band_data(time, swath, band_enum) ; swath_band_data:coordinates = "lon lat band" ;
