Testbed related activities: Disaster C-COP instances are being configured for JPL and UAH. Additional relevant data sets will be populated and followed by testing. A demonstration will be scheduled when ready. All ESIP will be invited to participate.
A face to face meeting will be held in Houston in October StormCenter, JPL, City of Houstice and Rice University to collaborate on hurricane damage response etc. A webex will be set up for remote participation. Meeting info will be announced to all ESIP. Folks are welcome to participate.
Other activities to consider: Resume the effort populating data set google docs that hopefully will lead to disaster information architecture effort. Dave to send out list of recommended GIS data product formats. Proper metadata and labeling (e.g, identification of limitation) will be important. It's hard to certify and qualify data sets as "Trusted". Their usefulness depend often on use case and situation. Have other clustered identified a set of trusted data for their use? Engage other ESIP members through a ESIP-call to identify GIS data currently available that are relevant to disaster lifecycle. Develop a disaster event oriented catalog. Engage ESIP members in identifying existing data viewers such as the new SEDAC Hazard Mapper: http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/mapping/hazards/ Bob to send out more info about this mapper. May schedule a demo at future telecon.
AGU session: Per Karen - "Natural Hazards Research and Mitigation: Global Navigation Satellite System, Data Diversity and Emerging Technology” has two oral sessions, and 5 of the 10 original abstracts will be in the oral session.
Other business: Make 1st Thursday 1 pm Pacific / 4 pm Eastern the standing time for future telecons. Annie to set up webex.
