Web Service Protocols, Experiences and Best Practices
The session will explore best practices in using some of the key Web service protocols. We will start by examining the SOAP vs REST debate in the context of Earth science applications. We will use this session to explore experiences, examples, and best practices in using SOAP and REST and to establish guidelines to determine which protocol to use when implementing a new web service. We will also take a closer look at two key OGC protocols, the Web Map Service and Web Coverage Service, again exploring experiences, examples, and best practices.
