Live Interoperability CD/DVD

Karl Benedict and I are working on a Linux-based LiveDVD with several open source geospatial software packages. We are hoping to have it ready by winter 2006 ESIP meeting. More info will be added here as they become available.

LiveDVD Contents

  • Gentoo-based (it's what I'm familiar with)
  • Includes:
    • GRASS (vector and raster-based GIS)
    • R (statistical software with support for reading geospatial datasets for spatial analyses)
    • Octave (Matlab clone)
    • GNUPlot (Plotting tools)
    • PostgreSQL/PostGIS (Implements Simple Features Specifications for SQL)
    • Apache 1.3.x
    • PHP 5.x
    • GDAL/OGR (Geospatial formats library)
    • PROJ
    • GEOS (Topology/Map Algebra library)
    • uDIG (Desktop GIS)
    • MapServer (with PHP/Python/Perl/Ruby MapScript, supports WMS/WFS/WCS/SOS server, WMS/WFS client, OPeNDAP client, etc.)
