Candidate Statement for Shelley Olds.
 
I am honored to be nominated for the Education Committee chair position. My goal as chair would be to continue the openness and inclusivity that ESIP is known for. I envision raising the visibility of the education materials available from the members of the ESIP community through our Out to Lunch 10-minute data & tool explorations, updating the wiki area to provide links to materials, and to continue the Drones in STEM initiative to complete the eBook, enlist educators to test the activities in their teaching environments, and to opportunistically align and network with other groups and organizations who are doing similar activities.

Since many of you haven’t met me, here’s a little about me. I am science, technology, and data geek with a penchant for teaching. I have been teaching and developing science and technology curriculum and products for over 16 year and have a Masters of Education in Instructional Systems Development and a B.S. in Earth Science / Geophysics. During my career, I have developed the interactive science education module From Gateways to Glaciation for the Ocean Drilling Program with an instructional design firm. I worked with NASA Education to coordinate education programs, develop data exploration web interfaces, develop the Earthgazer digital library, and co-create the [http://www.dlese.org/Metadata/adn-item/ ADN metadata framework] for the Digital Library for Earth System Education (DLESE). I co-led the [http://teachingboxes.org/ DLESE Teaching Box project] to develop classroom-ready instructional units and collaborated with digital library developers to pull in education material collections in DLESE at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) in Boulder, CO. Currently I am a Science Education Specialist for UNAVCO's Education and Community Engagement program, leading the development to re-design the data interface for the [https://www.unavco.org/software/visualization/GPS-Velocity-Viewer/GPS-Velocity-Viewer.html GPS Velocity Viewer] and the current UNAVCO web design, creating geodetic data-rich educational materials for [https://www.unavco.org/education/resources/modules-and-activities/modules-and-activities.html#secondary undergraduate and secondary Earth science courses], and leading the professional development programs for K-12.
