Developing Ontologies for the Semantic Web (presented by the Semantic Web Cluster)

Introduction to ontologies and their development. Includes discussion of standards underlying the Semantic Web methodologies, such as the top-down, bottom-up and use case-driven. We cover options for encoding in the Resource Description Framework (RDF), Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) and the Ontology Web Language (OWL). These XML languages provide a framework to explicitly describe heterogeneous data models in support of semantic interoperability. We also discuss tools, triple stores, editors, et c.
