The main goal is to present the MMI Semantic Framework. We will start with a brief overview of the MMI project, community and ongoing collaborations and then present key use cases in semantic interoperability in the Earth sciences as well as a demonstration of our Ontology Registry and Repository and associated Web services for vocabulary creation, term mappings, and semantic queries.

Goals

The main goal is to present the Marine Metadata Interoperability (MMI) Semantic Framework. We will discuss the motivation for semantics, a brief overview of projects benefiting from semantic web approaches in Ocean Sciences, an overview of the MMI project, and the MMI Ontology Registry and Repository.

We will also find out what a furniture online store has in common with an ocean science advisory web site.
