ESIP Election and Candidate Statement: IT & Interoperability Committee

Dear Voting Members of the ESIP Federation,
I feel honored to have served as IT&I chair for the past two years. It has been a fantastic opportunity for me and I have been happy to contribute to the federation. My role at NOAA has focused on data management standards, data integration and usability. NOAA has benefited enormously from ESIP and I would like to give back to ESIP through increasing active engagement in ESIP activities if reelected.

My vision for IT&I is achieving consensus to consistently implement data services for a wide variety of end users. Data interoperability requires a human dimension to consistently implement best practices and standards. User acceptance should be the driving factor in developing interoperable services. Only implementing standards is not enough to achieve interoperability. Data services have to serve a purpose and be useful to known users.
Sincerely,
Matt Austin
