MEEC Initiative Stakeholders

Like the Internet2, this is MAGEEP 2 in that we will offer wide and true multidisciplinary multinational collaboration, the co-creation and use of information (knowledge). We need to bring into this discussion all types of stakeholders

Regional

Sectorial

Demand and supply sides

Government

Industry

Academia

NGO

Societal Benefit Area

We need "champions" for each line of action

Water Quality

Air Quality

Energy

Other Environment

Sustainability

Health and Aging

MEEC Activities

Issues of entrepreneurship, citizenship, corporate responsibility and other skills should be interwoven into our "curriculum"

Courses

Issues re. Courses: Language of instruction; Re-use of courses

Use Cases (Examples)

  • a. Energy economics
  • b. Waste/brackish water use
  • c. Clean industry
  • d. Irrigation and agriculture
  • e. Livable cities
  • f. Air Pollution in India

Programs??

Online discussions forums

Student mobilities

Events

General management and finances

Dissemination and promotion activities

Etc…

MEEC Governance Models

We need to identify a management/governance model

Central management by Wustl

Partially distributed to partners

Synergy for added-value to all

Guiding principles

In the spirit of Globalization each partner should maintain its own unique "flavor" while building a common international posture for the collective. UN, UNESCO and others should be brought in as warranted. Examples:

  • IDC is installing a UNESCO Chair in Sustainability later this month
  • Do we have other relevant UNESCO chairs within MAGEEP

= MEEC Support and Sustainability

Funding proposals can be generated to significant and relevant competitive and other sources, such as the European Commission, the Ford Foundation, etc…

EU COST, COST Energy

How does this initiative help us to strengthen our three core institutional foci:

a. Research

                                                              i. We are developing with this idea a global collaborator

1. With it we will share and co-develop knowledge

b. Education

                                                              i. We are basically developing a joint online university

1. We will have courses, perhaps whole programs (degree and otherwise)

c. Service

                                                              i. We can bring our students together for joint community work
ii. The knowledge repository we are developing will serve the global community

1. That said, perhaps not all content will be open or free to all, given IPR, ongoing research and secrecy restraints.

6

We should consider tools to be adopted by MAGEEP to facilitate our remote work

a. The wiki model is good

b. Moodle should be considered also for course management

                                                              i. We should use open software platforms

7

We need success measures

a. Courses offered

                                                              i. Online
                                                            ii. F2F
                                                           iii. blended

1. Amount

2. Amount of participations

3. Revenue generated

b. Mobilities

                                                              i. Students
                                                            ii. Faculty
                                                           iii. Administration

c. Programs designed

                                                              i. For degree students

1. The 2Tor platform or other can be explored

ii. For non-degree students (e.g. MOOCs)

1. We can target our alumni and the wider public (life-long learning)

2. We should consider a strategic agreements with Coursera, EdX, Udacity or other; these are brands attracting MANY students

3. We should also explore the use of TEDx-type mini lectures for our MAGEEP YouTube Channel

d. Repositories developed

                                                              i. Digital learning objects

1. List of MAGEEP partner courses

                                                            ii. Bios of MAGEEP faculty

1. A MAGEEP competencies database

                                                           iii. Datasets and Best Practices
iv. MAGEEP scholarly output (e.g. articles, reports, patents, conference presentations)

1. Population of information

2. Updating of information

3. Use of information

4. Downloads

8

Education initiative particulars

a. We should endeavor to bring our students together technology-facilitated and f2f encounters in peer-learning, problem-based and project-based learning models

b. We need to link our information dissemination efforts to LinkedIn, FaceBook, YouTube, Twitter, iTunes and more

9) Dissemination

a. We need to think of additional channels to disseminate our findings in order to strengthen our collective impact

                                                              i. Davos
                                                            ii. UN, OECD,
                                                           iii. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Energy_organizations
                                                          iv. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&profile=default&search=water+organizations&fulltext=Search
