BACKGROUND
In order to efficiently develop and sustain any endeavor, a solid foundation must first be built. This section is intended to introduce: The terminology used in dialect documentation Standardized ways of expressing information about the data (Metadata Dialects) How that foundation can be expanded upon to enhance consistency and interoperability in communities that have a variety of metadata requirements, existing metadata dialects, and management systems (Documentation Guidance Methods).
