Satellite: However, an absence of long-term monitoring in many regions, and inadequate satellite observations means that it is not yet possible to predict the direction or magnitude of potential changes.

This is despite the recent development of rapid analytical techniques, such as proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry and the use of micro-meteorologically based flux measurement techniques, which have greatly enhanced the observational base on which emission estimates are made, and the use of satellite data to verify emissions estimates.
