Agenda:

1. NSTA 2020-Boston Deadline for session proposal submissions is April 15, 2019

  • Would put ESIP-NESTA in the title
  • Kalo interested in leading workshop (Kalo, Shelley, LuAnn)
  • Shelley will put an abstracts (2) - Jupyter Notebooks + PocketLabs

2. Summer Meeting - Teacher Workshop is Wednesday July 17

  • TITLE? Data in Action with Jupyter Notebooks and other Earth Science Tools
  • need to tell Teachers to bring a laptop or tablet to the session*
  • Will include 2 plenary talks (9:30-10:30)
    • Judy Tweed- Climate change through sound
    • Jennifer Hennessey--Ocean health policy
  • Jupyter Notebooks
    • “Hurricane Activity”
    • Logistics will be set-up beforehand for teachers to be able to jump right into the activity
  • Potential ESIP Member presentations/activities
    • CIESIN - Bob Downs (needs a hands-on component) Shelley to work w/ Bob
    • GOES 16/17 data activities - Margaret Mooney
    • Elizabeth’s NASA Data available (can anyone else use this data to present?)
    • Climate Literacy in the Classroom - Patrick Chandler (90 minutes; 20-30 min intro then teachers get an

opportunity to lead activities)

    • Suave - Ilya? (test out on a tablet) (needs a hands-on component) (go to his blog and see what peaks our interest then teacher-ize it)
    • NASA- Giovanni presentations with Jim Acker
    • Pocketlab Voyager demo

8:30-9:30 Intro: one hour + one activity? 9:30-10:30 Plenaries (1 or 2 hrs; outside of 6 hr time) 10:30-11:00 Break 11:00-12:30 Jupyter (1.5 hrs) 12:30-2:00 Lunch 2:00-3:30 Member demos/activities (30 -45 min) x 2 3:30-4:00 Break 4:00-5:30 Member demos/activities (30 -45 min) x 1-2 + PocketLab Voyage/Air demo and recruitment 5:30-8:00 Research Showcase (would teachers want to contribute/share?)

  • Advertising & registration fee (and get back)

3. ESIP Collaboration Area Highlights Webinar - 3-minute 1-slide lightning talk (4/19)

  • Bullet points from implementation plan for the year; with more time on summer workshop
  • Include how individuals can be virtually involved (see our wiki area!)
  • Margaret doing first draft ; Becky to present

4. Future Summer Meetings & EER - still trying to co-locate or schedule back to back weeks.

  • New contact person, Caroline Smith (EER), may be interested in working with us.
  • There’s approx 6 ESIP’rs that would go to EER if the right configuration.
  • Next ESIP is in Burlington, VT 2020.

5. Pocket Lab Update

  • Shelley to contact Erin & Dan K to have the Voyagers purchased and sent to Kalo
  • Waiting to summer to purchase the Airs and yearly teacher selection (from pool of teachers @ Summer session)

6. NSTA 2019 - Participating in Share-a-thon;

  • No workshop session, approved to request funding change

7. EER - CLEAN - Katie - Table @ share-a-thon + teaching demonstration - Handout the ESIP one pager?
