Organizers: Karen Moe, Dave Jones, Sean Barberie

Agenda: (From Karen's email)

Our 2017 Winter Meeting sessions have been moved to the first day as follows:

Day 1, Wednesday, Jan 11 2:00 pm eastern: Near Real Time Data for the Disasters Response User Community 4:00 pm eastern: Data Driven Decision Making for the Disasters Response User Community

W will need to refine the agenda for both sessions, following the descriptions below. I anticipate we will hear from Dave Jones about how to conduct the first session to discuss and explore the response to the 2016 Hurricane Matthew, and potentially a second case study following the Cascades Rising exercise timeline from Maggi Glasscoe.

We will also review the topics and speakers for the following session where we review our 2016 activities and identify key themes for 2017.

Notes

In attendance: Sean, Dave, Karen, Sara Graves, Casey Calamaio, Maggi Glasscoe, Robert Downs, Ken Keiser, Paul Lemieux (NOAA), two call-in participants.

Planning the Winter Sessions Two potential case studies for first session: Near real time data for disaster response community.

  • Hurricane Matthew and the Fleet Response
  • Cascadia Rising

Timeline

  • Potentially David Green talk about what he sees as the real time data needs within NASA.
  • Potentially hear from Tom Morran about case studies
  • Then Dave presents on GeoCollaborate during hurricane Matthew to coordinate fleet response, etc.
  • Wrap up discussion.
  • Then half hour break
  • Then second session.

Other Notes/Ideas

  • Envisioned as walking the audience through the scenario as an exercise.
  • How can we consider both data set requirements, and how those requirements change with time? The data requirements 10 minutes after an earthquake, 1 hour after, and 4 days after may all be drastically different.
  • Might be useful to get feedback from David Green and see if there are specific things that we can show that would answer his questions.

Second Session: D3M

  • Start with Tom Morran
  • ESIP goals in supporting this from Erin.
  • Update on UAH Project, with regard to Hurricane Matthew.
  • Might be useful to present at the winter meeting, but Ken Keiser says that there are other great examples they could present as well if they would rather show diversity (and not too hurricane focused).
  • How do event albums promote data driven decision making? This is what we need to show; will add a lot to the presentation.
  • Maggi presenting again with a more general discussion on the exercises--e.g. after action report, issues faced.
  • Look at opportunities for future D3M workshops and potentially a webinar.

Sean was talking for this part, so notes are added after the fact and may not be complete: Wildfire response Table-top exercise in Alaska. Possibly linking this with D3M in the future to act as a wildfire module for D3M. Using GeoCollaborate. May be able to pull new members into the Cluster. Sean would be happy to present on the results of this event after it is conducted in Feb.
