Few, if any, of today's data managers actually set out to become a member of the profession. With the proliferation of scientific data only expected to grow in the future, members of the scientific data management community recognize that workforce development challenges are on the horizon. The ESIP Federation, with support from NOAA, is laying the groundwork for a scientific data management training workshop. The workshop, which is not yet defined, will be based on the stated needs of this community.

This session will outline the initial thinking about the course and solicit your feedback on an appropriate path forward.

Session objectives include:

  1. Define the broad (and sub-) topics needing to be covered in a course
  2. Gain feedback on the evolution of the course
  3. Gauge community interest in serving on an advisory panel.
