Danie Kinkade, Information Systems Associate, WHOI/BCO-DMO

It is an honor to be considered as a nominee for an ESIP Committee Chair. I attended my first ESIP meeting shortly after my organization became a member in 2013. The benefit and value of belonging to the ESIP community was immediately evident, and I have steadily increased my engagement ever since. As a Type I Representative, I strive to find ways to leverage the collective resource existing in Type I community, and as a member of the Preservation and Stewardship Committee, my organization has repeatedly reaped the benefit of my involvement with ESIP.

Having a background in earth science and nearly two decades of experience in data management in both academic and federal environments has afforded me unique opportunities to engage with a variety of stakeholders from earth and information science domains. My efforts in the NSF EarthCube project have allowed me to gain insight into large, diverse organizational structures, and learn what it takes to build community.

Serving as Chair of the Nominations Committee will allow me to deepen my engagement with ESIP, while enabling me to use my knowledge of the community landscape to help shape a successful future for the ESIP community. I look forward to facilitating strategic growth for ESIP by on-boarding new partners who exemplify ESIP’s values and can advance ESIP’s goals to achieve its vision. I will endeavor to bring key stakeholders to ESIP, including stronger science engagement.

ESIP is a diverse and vibrant community-derived organization, where the whole is truly more than the sum of its parts. I look forward to serving in a capacity where I can advance ESIP’s mission.
