Metadata to describe a collection of physical samples, observations, or digital content (photography).

Updating National Digital Catalog (NDC) Collection Metadata Profiles

Community standards, user stories and workgroup consensus have been used to develop preliminary collection level thematic profiles. Where possible metadata elements have been mapped across existing standards/dialects for consistency and interoperability. Draft profiles were developed from the ESIP-USGS 2020 USGS National Digital Catalog (NDC) workshop.

Agent objects have been suggested to handle author/contact metadata elements.

Community-recommended controlled vocabularies have been suggested for key metadata elements.

Additional effort is needed to define and refine metadata date fields specifically to make them appropriate across and specific to thematic profiles.
