I am a Software Engineer at the University of Washington’s Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Oceans (JISAO), and at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Lab (PMEL) where I’ve been working on data management issues for 20+ years. I am currently the JCOMM Observations Coordination Group (OCG) Vice-chair for Data and Information and in this role I am pushing for the networks and programs of the Global Ocean Observing System to embrace FAIR principles in improving overall data stewardship and access to ocean data.
I have been peripherally involved in ESIP for several years, attending and presenting at the annual meetings. With the strengthening focus on improving data stewardship across a broad set of communities, it seems like an opportune time to gain a better understanding of how the ESIP community can connect to both regional and global data management communities for the benefit of all. I look forward to learning more about ESIP and how we can strengthen such connections.
