Job Purpose
ESIP Student Fellows are a group of graduate students that are interested in bridging the gap between informatics and Earth Science. This fellowship provides students a chance to work closely with professionals in an interdisciplinary, cross-sector group on current problems. The students become engaged in the group as rapporteurs, documenting the work of the group on the monthly telecons and at the semi-annual meetings (Summer/Winter). As the student become more familiar with the group activities he or she may chose to tie in their own research to the group activities.
Duties
- Rapporteur for a single cluster or work group that aligns with research interest
- Document monthly telecons (~1 hr) on the ESIP wiki
- Document Summer and Winter Meetings (~6 days total) on the ESIP wiki
- Support the cluster use of collaborative technologies including, but not limited to: Twitter, WebEx, MediaWiki, Facebook
- Share research with community at the poster sessions during physical meeting
Skills/Qualifications
- Research in Earth/environmental sciences and the use of scientific information.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Social media awareness/usage is desired.
Requirements
- Must be in a graduate program (M.S./Ph.D.) or a post-doc less than 2 years beyond your Ph.D.
- Must be able to attend the full duration of both Summer and Winter Meetings

Term
Fellows will serve a year-term starting from May 2011 - April 2012. Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,000 for participation, paid in two installments (one at the Summer Meeting and one at the conclusion of the year). In addition, required travel expenses will be borne by the Foundation for Earth Science. Participation in the Fellowship after the Summer Meeting is contingent on satisfactory performance. There will be an option to renew for a second year at the end of the first year.
