Cloud Mask
The GOES Imager Spectral bands Band6,Band4 (DIR) and Band1(visible)are used to create a simple cloud mask. The band1 image at 1731UTC on 20070511 is used here to demonstrate the effect of these filters on clouds in the image.
The filters based on the above mentioned spectral bands are applied on to this image in the following order and resulting changes are shown in the images
- Band-6 (13.31 micrometer) deficit threshold filter
- Band-4 (10.71 micrometer) deficit threshold filter
- Band-4 to Band-6 ratio threshold filter
- Band-1 threshold filter
