Australasian Earth and Environmental Science Information Partners (E2SIP)
Welcome to the E2SIP Community of Practice
About
E2SIP provides a forum for the Australasian Earth and environmental science data and informatics community to collaborate on challenges and solutions in eResearch infrastructures, including practices, standards and emerging technologies. The group is established as an ESIP cluster, with the aim to enable closer collaboration and knowledge exchange between the Australian and ESIP communities. E2SIP has three primary goals:
- Knowledge exchange within the Australian Earth and environment science data and informatics community
- Knowledge exchange between the Australian community and the international community; and
- To maintain an engaged community of practice with regular forums.
History
The catalyst for E2SIP was the CSIRO Cutting Edge Science Symposium on Linking Environmental Data and Samples, held in Canberra in May 2017. Subsequently, in liaison with ESIP, E2SIP was established and launched at the Collaborative Conference on Computational and Data Intensive Science (C3DIS), in Melbourne in May 2018. E2SIP has since hosted a number of workshops and collaborative sessions held at relevant conferences. See E2SIP Documentation for information from previous workshops and sessions.
Currently, the E2SIP community mainly draws on those organisations with ESIP connections, as partners, collaborators or sponsors. Current Australian and New Zealand partners are National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) Australia, Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN), AuScope, Geoscience Australia (GA), CSIRO and Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research. The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is an ESIP collaborator.
MeetingsE2SIP meetings and events have typically been organised as workshops and collaborative sessions held at relevant conferences.
