It has been an honor to serve as the Education Committee chair this past year and will continue to serve the ESIP community for this next year if elected. This past year I worked closely with the ESIP Education Committee members to help launch the Out to Lunch data tool webinars, primarily led by Margaret Mooney, and to continue the Drones in STEM initiative, which culminated in facilitating 10 NSTA sessions plus two longer-format workshops, reaching over 250 educators. Through committee efforts, seven drone-specific hands-on activities and support materials have been published through the ESIP Education wiki, UCAR Science Education and UNAVCO Education and Community Engagement web areas. Prior to this project, there were no drone-focused geoscience-education resources available online.
All of this great work has been possible through collaboration and teamwork by the members of the ESIP community. Over the past three years, I have met many dynamic and knowledgeable education professionals with a similar passion for geoscience, technology and education through my involvement with the Education committee.
Outside of ESIP, I am a Science Education Specialist for UNAVCO's Education and Community Engagement program, leading the creation of museum exhibits that incorporate geodetic and hazard science to raise awareness about seismic and tsunami hazards, and continue to develop data-rich educational materials for secondary Earth science courses, and leading professional development programs for K-12 teachers.
