After I graduated from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan) in 1978 with a double major in mathematics and physics, I went to University of California at Berkeley and obtained a Masters in Computer Science. I worked for Bell Laboratories (operating systems development) and then at Cadnetix (operating systems development and computer aided design software).
In 1988, I started working at the National Center for Atmospheric Research(NCAR) in the Earth Observing Laboratory. While at NCAR, I've worked on the Mile High Radar, the C-Band radars, NEXRAD data quality improvements, the S-Pol radar, the driftsonde system, the High Spectral Resolution Lidar(HSRL) and the HIAPER Cloud Radar.
