SOS (Sensor Observation Service)

From Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP)

What

This standard, referred to as OGC-SOS, defines a Web service interface which allows querying observations, sensor metadata, as well as representations of observed features.

Who

In April 2012, The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) membership adopted the OGC Sensor Observation Service (SOS) Interface Standard Version 2.0.

Objective

Provide standard tools for managing sensor networks and data in an interoperable way.

Notes

The initial request to an SOS server is for capabilities of the server. The GetCapabilities response is the dialect considered here.
