Indigenous Data Discovery

From Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP)

March 28, 2025

The Discovery Cluster is a community of ESIP members interested in advancing methods for search and easy retrieval of Earth science data. In particular, we seek techniques to facilitate end users finding relevant information from federal repositories and other large repositories, where the data may be fragmented and anonymized. We ask, how can we better serve end users to provide collections of data that are specific to their needs? Indigenous data is a recent focus of the Discovery Cluster, and it doesn't address many of the associated challenges associated, such as data storage and security, which are actively being addressed by other ESIP communities. However, here at the Discovery Cluster, we are focused on tools, like Virtual Collections (see this ESIP meeting session, and this EOS blog) and dynamic citation (see this white paper), which can be used to cut through the clutter and provide a streamlined and responsive subset of information to address end user's needs.
