Candidate Statement: I'm honored to be considered for the ESIP Board. I bring a broad perspective in scholarly publishing and Earth and space science data, and would try to bring those perspectives and connections into ESIP's work and goals. I feel strongly that its important to connect better the data, repository, and informatics communities with the publishers and researchers to effectively extend best practices across the data life cycle. We are actively engaged in developing and promoting best practices in data management, including in journal workflows. Bio: I serve as the Director of Publications for the American Geophysical Union (AGU). I am responsible for overseeing AGU's portfolio of many books and 20 journals and their editorial operations, helping set overall editorial policies, and leading future developments. I also am leading with Shelley Stall AGU's Data Management Assessment program and other data-related efforts. Before arriving at AGU, I served as the Deputy Editor for Physical Sciences at Science and earlier as an editor at Science. I have a Ph.D. in Geology from UCLA and held a post-doctoral appointment at the Department of Mineral Sciences, Smithsonian Institution. My main areas or research and publications span the tectonics of the western U.S., metamorphic petrology, modeling magmatic and hydrothermal processes, and on scholarly publishing. I am a fellow of the Geological Society of American and Mineralogical Society of America and serve on the DataOne Board.
