What

SERF is a standard used to create directory entries that describe a group of data services and applications.

Who

An existing infrastructure in Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) was modified to create the SERF metadata format.

Objective

Aid users in finding tools and services to manipulate data.

Notes

SERF consists of a collection of fields that detail information about the service. This information is specifically designed to help users decide whether a particular service would be useful for their needs.
