The Earth Data Analysis Center was one of the winners of the 2008 FUNding Friday mini-grant competition. Karl Benedict proposed the project which created two products. The first is an XSLT stylesheet that defines the transformation of an OGC WMS GetCapabilities request into a corresponding OGC KML file that encodes access to the published WMS layers through KML Image Overlay WMS request URLs. Second, a simple REST service was developed that provides this conversion in response to a request containing a WMS GetCapabilities request URL, submitted over the web. Both the produced XSLT XML file and the REST service will be provided to the Federation for use by the members, with the XSLT being licensed under an OSI approved Open Source license.
