Short term gains possible? -- Clynnes 17:17, 30 July 2007 (EDT)

The Provenance Challenge stuff is pretty cool, but a little daunting, especially the second one. If we all have to learn each other's workflow models in order to write a translater in order to parse and incorporate a foreign provenance, it could take a while...

Thing is, if we could have a human-readable end-to-end provenance (albeit not machine parseable all the way through by any one application), that might scratch a substantial part of the science user itch.

I'm thinking of:

  1. a standard or convention by which one refers to or includes/encapsulates a foreign provenance
  2. a stylesheet to make it human readable
  3. a standard or convention or mapping method to specify the originating/performing organization
