Peter Baumann is Professor of Computer Science at Jacobs University Bremen and holds a PhD from Darmstadt Technical University. With his Large-Scale Sicientific Informaiton Systems research group, he focuses on scalable multi-dimensional raster databases and their application in earth, space, and life sciences. Peter Baumann has pioneered raster databases since 1991. He has authored and co-authored 100+ books, chapters, and papers on array databases and related fields. He has architected the rasdaman system which is today's only fully implemented and operationally used raster database worldwide. He holds international patents on raster databases and has received a series of national and international innovation awards for his work. In the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standardization body he is chairing the raster-relevant working groups and is editor of over ten standards and candidate standards in the field, centering around the Web Coverage Service. Further, Peter Baumann has extensive experience in large and small industry, including founding and leading IT spin-off companies.
