Introduction/Background

Cyberinfrastructure for Air Quality Management (CyAir) is a project to contribute to the planning, development, maintenance, and coordination of systems to help the air quality community better utilize air quality information. As part of this effort, over 50 interviews were performed with data providers and data users to assess the current state of data exchange and identify needs and issues. In addition, other efforts and past cyberinfrastructure assessments were reviewed. The interview responses and other information were used to analyze gaps between the current state of air quality data exchange and the CyAir Vision.

An initial set of recommendations were formed to address key needs and issues identified during this assessment. The recommendations are centered around the foundational elements of an air quality cyberinfrastructure include data access standards, metadata standards, and the data systems and projects than implement those standards. These topics have been discussed during previous Air Quality Virtual Workshops and, in the process, numerous challenges have been identified. This Virtual Workshop aims to review the initial set of recommendations and assess whether their implementation will help address some of the issues and challenges faced in networking air quality information systems using interoperability standards.

Objectives

  • Introduction to Recommendations (powerpoint slides)
    • Summarize Recommendations
    • Describe approach used to generate recommendations
    • How the recommendations are expected to be used
  • Feedback and Discussion
    • Which are most important recommendations
    • Items that are mot captured in recommendations
  • Outline session during ESIP Winter Meeting
