Back to Nomination_Committee/2018_Nominations_and_Ballot

I am honored to be nominated again for the Data Stewardship Committee chair position. In my role as a Project Scientist and Research Data Services Specialist in the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Library, I frequently look to the ESIP Data Stewardship Committee for expertise, recommendations, and collaboration opportunities on many topics. As chair of the ESIP Data Stewardship Committee for the past year, I have led a group within the committee to provide the perspective of Earth science data centers on how to understand risk factors for data sets and collections. This work led to a white paper being released and distributed to many communities outside of ESIP <https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.4816474.v1>, and a new committee activity to define a "data risk matrix" to support risk assessment and prevention.

My goal as chair for the next year would be to continue the Data Stewardship Committee's leadership role within the Earth and space science informatics communities. As chair, I would focus on three main efforts:

- Building on the Committee's achievements by extending and updating Committee products, including the data citation recommendations and Data Management Short Course for Scientists;
- Developing new Committee outputs, such as the aforementioned "data risk matrix," that respond to pressing needs and interests of the ESIP community; and
- Facilitating connections between the Data Stewardship Committee and other ESIP committees and clusters.
